Learn about the fascinating world of backyard astrophotography from a local enthusiast.
Have you ever looked up on a moonless night at the countless stars shining over Sylvan Lake? What we can’t see with our naked eyes are objects so dim, and so distant, they can only be captured through long-exposure photography.
Join Gary Neilson for an online “Introduction to Astrophotography from your Backyard". Gary will cover the hobby’s basics from simple equipment to get you started, through to more complex setups.
The session is open to all and no prior experience is necessary; just an interest in photographing the wonders of the night sky. Gary will explain how to capture these beautiful heavenly objects using modern cameras, telescopes, mounts that track the night sky as the earth rotates, software and the image processing techniques he uses.
Gary will also show some of the photos he has taken from those first inspirational 'fuzzy blobs' through to some of the latest images he’s captured at his small remotely-operated backyard observatory in Sylvan.
